Sexual Identity

It is very common to question one's sexual identity, especially during the college years, when there is so much exposure to new people and new experiences. This can be a very exciting process of self-discovery, but the struggle with self-acceptance and feeling “different” can also feel stressful and lonely. In our society, people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or who question their identity, often face rejection and stigmatization by others. These difficulties can also lead to depression, anxiety, substance abuse and low self-esteem among LGBTQ people.

Many people find therapy a helpful way of dealing with the complex issues around sexual identity. Talking to a supportive, accepting therapist in a confidential and safe environment can help you explore your feelings about your gender and sexuality. It can also help to become more comfortable talking to family or friends about one's sexual identity, and can provide support if conflicts with family or friends occur.

The Clinic is LGBTQ friendly.
