Post-Doctoral Training

Postdoctoral Fellows at the Psychological Clinic participate in a comprehensive program of activities designed to consolidate their skills in clinical consultation,diagnosis and adult psychotherapy. Postdoctoral fellows receive intensive supervision of their clinical cases and participate fully in the Clinic's research programs, which include longitudinal studies of the therapeutic alliance, therapeutic collaboration, as well as research on the Inventory of Interpersonal Strengths. Postdoctoral fellows also have the opportunity to supervise graduate student clinicians.

Admission requirements include completion of all professional doctoral degree requirements from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or an APA/CPA-accredited program and pre-doctoral internship meeting APPIC standards. At least by the first day of the fellowship new Fellows must have either the diploma in hand or a letter from the Director of graduate studies verifying the completion of all degree requirements pending their institution graduation ceremony.

Postdoctoral Fellows receive evaluations twice each year, once in December and again in August. Fellows review their evaluations with the Director at these times and are asked to give feedback and evaluations to their supervisors as well. Postdoctoral Fellows are provided with information on the Psychological Clinic's policies, procedures, problem-solving strategies, and procedures for filing grievances.

The Clinic's postdoctoral fellowship program fulfills the licensure requirements for postdoctoral supervised practice in the state of Michigan.
